Today in the ACT is Canberra Day. I have no idea why we have Canberra Day. What I do know is that as I work in NSW (Queanbeyan) I don't get the Canberra Day holiday, whereas Sean and the kids do! So this morning I got up and went to work leaving them in various states of wakefulness (in the case of the kids they were in the least state of 'awake')! The trip to work was fairly quick and uneventful because a) Scotty and Nige also had the day off (104.7fm) and b) most of Canberra were doing other things than getting out on the road at around 8am (like sleeping!)
The above pic is of the road I have featured a few times in my blog, except this time there is next to no traffic on it. Normally as I enter Erindale Drive going towards Long Gully Road, I have to dodge trucks, buses and other cars to go from the left lane to the right lane (of 3 lanes of traffic) to turn right. Not today! There were only myself and 2 other cars in sight the whole way up Erindale drive...and all 3 of us turned toward Queanbeyan. I reckon Queanbeyan should jump on the Canberra based public holiday bandwagon, as ACT has 2 more public hols than NSW, and Queanbeyan doesn't have any locally based days off. What about a show day, or a Queanbeyan Day or even a "HA HA Canberra we can have a day off 'just because' too!" day??
